General Surgeon & Weight Loss Surgery
Associate Professor Andrew MacCormick was born and raised in South Auckland and graduated from the University of Auckland Medical School in 1998. He has trained in general surgery around New Zealand before undertaking further specialist training in upper gastrointestinal, liver, biliary and pancreatic surgery, as well as bariatric surgery, at Auckland Hospital and Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney.
Andrew returned to New Zealand in 2011 to take up a position as a general, upper gastrointestinal and bariatric surgeon at Counties Manukau DHB, and is also a senior lecturer at the University of Auckland with a strong interest in teaching medical students and surgical trainees. Andrew’s research spans enhanced recovery after surgery, bariatrics, benign and malignant gastro-oesophageal and pancreatic disease, and clinical variation.
He also holds roles with the Ministry of Health, the Medical Council of New Zealand, the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the Australian and New Zealand Gastro-Oesophageal Surgical Association (ANZGOSA), and consults from the Ormiston Specialist Centre.
